Career Summary
Paul
started working in Networking after a 4-year degree course in computing science.
Working for a number of manufacturers and systems integrators gave exposure to a
wide range of telecommunications scenarios. An 8-year career in Cisco
Systems saw the now-giant company grow its’ range of products from five to over
twenty thousand. Paul worked in the Enterprise Channel Systems Engineering
team for 4 years and the latter 4 years spent in Service Provider Consulting.
Paul gained the respected “CCIE” accreditation in 1996 and has re-certified
every 2 years, to demonstrate the depth of his technical knowledge which covers
many areas from MPLS to Security.
Paul
has exceptional presentation, customer engagement and motivational skills.
Providing technical leadership to the engineering team as well as providing
high-level customer contact with numerous UK and European Network Service
Providers and large Enterprises, including public sector.
- Specialist in large-scale IP routing (BGP, ISIS),
Dial Access, xDSL, ATM, VoIP, MPLS (VPN and TE), both practical implementation
and design architecture. Paul has written many Cisco internal white papers and
design studies on MPLS implementations.
- Worked with major UK Service Providers on Next
Generation Network architectures, covering Metro Ethernet, Triple Play
broadband, QoS, Traffic Engineering, LDP Interworking with legacy MPLS/VPNs
- Broad-based technical experience covering Design
and Implementation of both Enterprise and Service Provider networking solutions:
Campus LAN switching, ATM, Frame Relay, PoP design, Large-scale MPLS designs,
Packet over SDH, DPT/SRP, QoS, Congestion Management, Traffic Shaping, IPSec and

extensive large audience presentations including Cisco Networkers user forum
(annual 300+ attendees), Cisco MPLS Deployment Forum (180 attendees); presenting
at senior level within multi-national carriers such as Cable & Wireless, Energis,
GTS/Ebone. Paul was a popular speaker at the Cisco UK Executive Briefing Centre
on MPLS and QoS.
